Abu Dhabi International Airport — Gateway to the Capital's Roads

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) handles over 20 million passengers annually and sits at the northern edge of Abu Dhabi island, roughly 30 km from the city centre. The E10 highway links the airport directly to the capital's downtown in under 25 minutes — no toll gates, no Salik complications. That same corridor puts you on the Abu Dhabi–Dubai highway (E11) within minutes, making the airport one of the most strategically positioned pickup points in the United Arab Emirates.Renting a vehicle here isn't just about getting from A to B. Abu Dhabi operates differently from Dubai: the distances between landmarks are longer, public transport thinner, and taxis genuinely scarce outside peak hours. Your own car changes that equation entirely.

AUH sits 30 km north of Abu Dhabi city centre, connected by E10. Emirates Palace, the Corniche, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque are all within a 30-minute drive. The airport is also the closest major hub to Al Ain — roughly 90 minutes east on E22.

A rental car from AUH opens the entire UAE: Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 90 minutes via E11, Sharjah in under two hours, Fujairah's coastline via the mountains in around 2.5 hours. All emirates — no restrictions. Oman is excluded.

Choose Your Car for Abu Dhabi

Economy & Compact for City Runs

Economy cars work well for solo travellers or couples navigating Abu Dhabi’s wide boulevards. Fuel-efficient, easy to park near the Corniche or Al Maryah Island.

SUVs for Families & Longer Runs

Abu Dhabi’s distances reward a bigger vehicle. SUV rentals handle luggage, child seats (50 AED/add-on), and cross-emirate trips to Al Ain or Fujairah with ease.

Hyundai Palisade or KIA Telluride — both available from AUH delivery.

Luxury & Business Class

Arriving for meetings or a special occasion? Luxury cars — Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover — make the drive from AUH to Emirates Palace or ADNEC feel appropriate. Age 25+ required.

  • All our cars come with Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance, which reduces or covers your financial liability in case of an accident.

If you're at fault, you’ll only need to pay the deductible.
If the accident is not your fault, you don’t pay anything.

To make a claim, a police report is required:

    • A green report means you’re not at fault — no payment needed.

    • A red report means you’re at fault — the deductible applies.

Please note: CDW insurance does not cover:

    • Damage to tires, glass, mirrors, or the underbody.

    • Accidents caused while breaking the law (e.g. driving under the influence or fleeing the scene).

    • Lost keys or personal belongings in the car.

  • Dubai has a convenient and flexible parking payment system. You can choose from several options:

    2. Via SMS
If you have a local SIM card, send a message to 7275 in the format:
plate number [space] zone code [space] number of hours
      Example: A12345 123A 2 (for 2 hours in zone 123A)

    3. Via parking meters
Meters accept coins (1 AED and 50 fils) and Nol cards.

You can pay for all tolls when returning the car.

Entering Dubai Mall also triggers a Salik charge.

  • To book a car in Dubai, please send us a scan or photo of these documents:

    • Your passport

    • Your valid driver’s license (front and back)

    • An International Driving Permit (IDP) — this is required for citizens of some countries (see the list here).

If you’re from the EU, GCC, USA, UK, Canada, or a few other places, you don’t need an IDP. For people from Belarus and Ukraine, just your national driver’s license and passport are enough to book.

If you’re from Russia, Kazakhstan, or other CIS countries, an International Driving Permit is a must.

UAE residents should provide a valid UAE driver’s license and their Emirates ID. If your UAE license is less than 3 months old, please also send your national driver’s license showing you’ve been driving for 3 months or more.

  • Off-road use is a violation of the rental agreement and is not allowed.

    • Ages 18–21:
You can rent economy-class cars only. A refundable deposit of AED 2,000 is required.
Insurance terms: in case of an accident, you’ll pay the deductible (usually AED 1,000) plus 10% of the repair cost or vehicle value (in case of total loss).

    • Ages 21–25:
Most vehicles are available, except for certain luxury and high-performance models.
Insurance terms: the deductible ranges from AED 1,000 to 1,500 depending on the car class, plus 10% of the repair cost or car value (in case of total loss).

    • 25 and older:
All car categories are available. The 10% rule does not apply to insurance.

Minimum driving experience: 3 months (applies to all age groups).

If your UAE license is less than 3 months old but your original license shows more driving experience, you're still eligible to rent a car.

  • Any customer who has a valid UAE Driving License which is minimum 1 year old or above.

  • If you're involved in an accident, call the police immediately at 999, then contact us right away to report the incident. You’ll also need to fill out a damage report for the insurance.

Your financial responsibility will depend on whether you were at fault — we review each case individually and guide you through the next steps.

  • We offer several convenient ways to pay for your car rental in Dubai — choose what works best for you:

    • Cash — in AED, USD, or EUR.

    • Debit and credit cards — including Russian cards in RUB.

    • Bank transfers.

  • Yes — with Rentico, you can rent a car without a deposit or credit card.

You have two options: either leave a refundable deposit, or choose a no-deposit option by paying a small extra fee for the entire rental period. This fee starts from AED 27 and depends on the car and rental duration.

A credit card is not required.

  • If you want to rent a car in the UAE, in some cases you’ll need an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your regular driver’s license. For example, people from Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and some other countries need an IDP. You can find a list of the most common countries and their IDP requirements here.

You don’t need an International Driving Permit if you are:

    • A UAE resident. Just show your Emirates ID and a valid UAE driver’s license that’s been issued at least 3 months ago. If your UAE license is newer than that, you’ll also need to show your original national driver’s license proving you’ve been driving for more than 3 months.

    • A citizen of the EU, GCC, USA, UK, Canada, Belarus, or Ukraine. For renting a car, your national driver’s license and passport are enough.

In any case, you must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces your liability in the event of an accident during your car rental. Without this, you could be liable for the full cost of the rental car if it were to be damaged or written off. CDW means you won’t have to pay the full cost of any repairs as long as you’ve followed the T&Cs.

CDW is always included when booking with rentico.ae with Excess or Excess Reimbursement. CDW is sometimes known as Loss Damage Waiver or Damage Excess Waiver.

  • Rentico delivers to AUH airport parking — not curbside valet. Send your flight number via WhatsApp when you book. The team monitors arrivals and coordinates timing. Airport parking fees are paid by the driver. If your flight is delayed, message us — no rebooking penalty.
  • Yes. The full UAE is open — Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman. The Abu Dhabi–Dubai corridor via E11 takes around 90 minutes without heavy traffic. Oman is not permitted under any rental agreement.
  • Abu Dhabi uses the DARB electronic toll system, charged automatically by plate recognition — no separate tag needed. If you cross into Dubai, Salik gates apply: 4–6 AED per gate during peak hours, zero at night, plus Rentico’s 1.5 AED service fee per crossing. All toll charges are settled at vehicle return.
  • CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is included in every rental. The standard excess is 1,000 AED per incident. Drivers under 25 pay the excess plus 20% of repair costs. Glass and tyre damage fall outside standard CDW. A police report — filed via the Abu Dhabi Police app or by calling 999 — is mandatory for any insurance claim to be valid.
  • The airport’s location makes it a genuine launchpad for the capital and beyond. Here’s what’s reachable without stress:

    • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — 20 minutes south. One of the world’s largest mosques; 22,000-capacity main hall, free entry. Dress code required.
    • Yas Island — 15 minutes east. Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, and Warner Bros. World are all on the same island. Budget a full day.
    • Abu Dhabi Corniche — 30 minutes. 8 km of waterfront, cycling lanes, beach access. Best driven in the evening when the light hits the skyline.
    • Louvre Abu Dhabi — 35 minutes via the coastal road to Saadiyat Island. Entry from 63 AED. The architecture alone justifies the detour.
    • Al Ain — 90 minutes on E22. UNESCO-listed oasis city, Al Ain Zoo, Jebel Hafeet mountain road. A proper day trip.
    • Dubai — 90 minutes on E11. Car rental from Dubai International Airport is also available if you need a one-way option.

The car is pre-cooled and ready at the parking lot. All rentals include tinted glass — essential when Abu Dhabi's afternoon sun turns the E10 into a glare corridor.
